Medicure to Launch an Innovative E-commerce Pharmacy Platform

Before the end of 2021, Medicure intends to develop a national direct-to-consumer E-Commerce pharmacy platform through its subsidiary, Marley DrugTM pharmacy.

Fremont, CA: Medicure is a pharmaceutical firm based in the United States that focuses on developing and marketing medications and healthcare products for patients and prescribers. The company's current focus is on the marketing and distribution of AGGRASTAT® (tirofiban hydrochloride) injectable and ZYPITAMAG® (pitavastatin) tablets in the United States get distributed by Medicure Pharma Inc., the Company's U.S. subsidiary. Medicure also runs Marley DrugTM, Inc. ("Marley Medication"), a North Carolina-based pharmacy that provides an Extended Supply drug program to all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the majority of territories, including Puerto Rico.

Before the end of 2021, Medicure intends to develop a national direct-to-consumer E-Commerce pharmacy platform through its subsidiary, Marley DrugTM pharmacy.

Marley Drug's new E-Commerce website's major purpose is to avoid the existing framework controlled by health insurers and pharmacy benefit managers, making access to inexpensive pharmaceuticals difficult for many Americans, including generic and branded products like ZYPITAMAG. More than 120 million uninsured & underinsured Americans cannot obtain inexpensive pharmaceuticals and seek a dependable and convenient source to fill their prescriptions. Marley Drug will provide industry-leading rates on over 100 of the most often prescribed generic pharmaceuticals, as well as free countrywide shipping. The platform will emphasize usability and customer service, and it will be unique in that it will be able to ship to any state in the United States.

Notably, the pharmacy platform addresses the country's 'pharmacy deserts.' A 'pharmacy desert' is a geographic location where Americans cannot fill a prescription within a half-mile (for low-income persons without automobiles) or a mile of their residence. Many Americans suffer from a lack of timely access to a drugstore.

"This marks a natural progression for Medicure's Marley Drug online pharmacy, which originated as a brick-and-mortar operation more than 17 years ago and is being developed into a national direct-to-consumer E-Commerce platform. This evolution will mark the start of an exciting new chapter for our company," said Albert D. Friesen, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Medicure and Chair of its Board of Directors. "We look forward to growing and developing this E-Commerce platform over the next few months in innovative ways to bring affordable medication to all Americans. The combined business will be well-positioned to strengthen our existing lines of business, which include Medicure's primary care drug, ZYPITAMAG, and future branded products, and ultimately to generate substantial shareholder value."
